HAARP can be used for many purposes. Enormous quantities of energy can be controlled by manipulating the electrical characteristics of the atmosphere.

"HAARP can be used for many purposes. Enormous quantities of energy can be controlled by manipulating the electrical characteristics of the atmosphere."

The project would also allow better communications with submarines and manipulation of global weather patterns, but it is also possible to do the reverse, to disrupt communications.

By manipulating the ionosphere one could block global communications while transmitting one’s own.

Another application is earth-penetrating, tomography, x-raying the earth several kilometres deep, to detect oil and gas fields, or underground military facilities.

Over-the-horizon radar is another application, looking round the curvature of the earth for in-coming objects.

If used as a military weapon this can have a devastating impact on an enemy.

HAARP can deliver millions of times more energy to a given area than any other conventional transmitter.

The energy can also be aimed at a moving target which should constitute a potential anti-missile system.

HAARP has links with 50 years of intensive space research for military purposes, including the Star Wars project, to control the upper atmosphere and communications

Meteorite may have seeded life on Earth.

Life on Earth probably originated elsewhere. Life may have started in space and come to Earth on comets.

The new research suggests that the meteorites, which carry with them records of chemistry in theearly solar system, may have seeded Earth with the molecular precursors of life.

a group of U.S. researchers has found evidence of emission of extraterrestrial nitrogen by a primitive meteorite.
Nitrogen is a chemical element essential for life, found in all terrestrial organisms.
Studies with the Murchison meteorite, which reached Australia in 1969 showed that the rock is also rich in organic compounds

The origin of life on Earth is a very deep mystery and many scientists are convinced we need to look outside our own planet for an explanation.

One obvious objection to any form of exogenesis is that we have simply transferred the problem elsewhere — we have still not answered the question of how, when or where life began.

‘life’ may be as ubiquitous as hydrogen and helium, and that at night we are peering into a cosmos that is, quite literally, hopping with life and life, moreover, as we know it.

Until recently a big argument against this idea was the belief that life forms could not possibly survive the rigours of deep space.

It is now known, however, that some bacteria, viruses and even primitive animals such as the tiny insect-like eight-legged tardigrade — an earthly creature which scientists have taken into space — can easily survive, perhaps for millions of years, in the radiation-bathed vacuum of space.

a new art in the practice of democracy," the "manufacture of consent" -- the "engineering of consent"

Daily dose of Chomsky:

"Popular struggles have won a great many rights, but concentrated power and privilege clings to the Madisonian conception in ways that vary as society changes.

By World War I, business leaders and elite intellectuals recognized that the population had won so many rights that they could not be controlled by force, so it would be necessary to turn to control of attitudes and opinions.

Those are the years when the huge public relations industry emerged -- in the freest countries of the world, Britain and United States, where the problem was most acute.

The industry was devoted to what Walter Lippmann approvingly called "a new art in the practice of democracy," the "manufacture of consent" -- the "engineering of consent" in the phrase of his contemporary Edward Bernays, one of the founders of the public relations industry.

Both Lippmann and Bernays took part in Wilson's state propaganda organization, the Committee on Public Information, created to drive a pacifist population to jingoist fanaticism and hatred of all things German. It succeeded brilliantly.

The same techniques, it was hoped, would ensure that the "intelligent minorities" would rule, undisturbed by "the trampling and the roar of a bewildered herd," the general public, "ignorant and meddlesome outsiders" whose "function" is to be "spectators," not "participants."

This was a central theme of the highly regarded "progressive essays on democracy" by the leading public intellectual of the twentieth century (Lippmann), whose thinking captures well the perceptions of progressive intellectual opinion.”

9.0 earthquake off Japan's eastern coast halted virtually all car assembly in Japan since March 11, 2011

With a full-scale recovery expected to be months away, the cost to Japan's $700 billion auto industry will be significant.

While the supply disruption has affected all Japanese automakers and even many overseas, the current debacle was a particularly cruel blow for Toyota.
To spread out its geographic risk, the world's biggest automaker has in recent years begun to establish a third production cluster in Japan in the northeast Tohoku region, which bore the full force of the earthquake and tsunami.

Today in America there are nearly twice as many people working for the government (22.5 million) than in all of manufacturing (11.5 million). This is an almost exact reversal of the situation in 1960, when there were 15 million workers in manufacturing and 8.7 million collecting a paycheck from the government.
